The musical Hamilton has been a phenomenal global hit. Written by Lin-Manuel Miranda who also wrote the music for Moana, Encanto and Mary Poppins Returns, it charts the rise and fall of Alexander Hamilton and his contribution to the turbulent years that led up to American Independence and the presidency of George Washington until his untimely death in a duel in 1804.
Bishop Rose Hudson-Wilkins, Bishop of Dover, has created a 5 session Lent course based on this musical which involves watching the whole musical and then reflecting on key aspects of life and what the Bible says in 5 sessions which cover the following themes:
- Session 1: ‘My Name is’ – Identity and Belonging
- Session 2: ‘Rise Up’ – Ambition and Temptation
- Session 3: ‘The Unimaginable’ – Forgiveness and Redemption
- Session 4: ‘We’ll bleed and fight for you’ – Love and Sacrifice
- Session 5: ‘The story of tonight’ – Hope and courage through adversity
Post Easter – we will convene for a shared meal over which we will reflect on what we have learned as well as listening to part of the soundtrack of Hamilton.
Please register your interest with Karen in the church office (881879) and once we know numbers we will confirm dates, times and venues. Currently, we envisage three groups of ten people meeting on Sunday evenings, Monday afternoons and Tuesday evenings.
There will be a small charge to cover the cost of the course materials.
