St Mary’s Eco-Tip for May

General, St Mary's

God’s wonderful world

God’s plants and creatures are wonderful and he has made us all to depend on each other. Wildlife may be declining but here are some ways you can help nature to flourish…

No mow May
Try leaving your lawn (or part of it) to grow during May and watch the wildflowers appear. The butterflies and bees will thank you for it.

Feed the birds
Place feeders near to bushes or trees, where small birds will feel safer from predators.

Put up a bee ‘hotel’
You can buy or make a bee ‘hotel’ to give bees holes to lay their eggs in. Look to see if the holes get sealed by leaf-cutter bees.

Don’t be too tidy
Create a logpile or just leave sticks lying around for those valuable creepy-crawlies.

Provide a source of water
Even a shallow bowl of water can be used by various creatures for drinking, breeding or bathing.

Support a wildlife charity
…such as the Hants & IOW Wildlife Trust or the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF).
