Here are some eco-tips for April, brought to you by the Eco-Hub.
The Problem…
- The fashion industry has a major adverse environmental impact and accounts for around 10% of global carbon emissions.
- It takes about 2,700 litres of water to produce one cotton T shirt and textile dying is the second largest polluter of water globally.
- The world produces around 100 million tons of textile waste annually and currently less than 1% is recycled.
Some easy tips to help…
- Buy less, choose better – invest in quality.
- Support ethical and sustainable brands.
- Enjoy shopping for second-hand clothes in charity shops, second hand clothes shops and online or Vinted. (You can get some great quality items.)
- Recycle – donate/re-purpose old clothes instead of throwing them away.
- Wash smarter – use lower temperatures and a micro-plastic filtering bag for nylon, acrylic and polyester.
