St Mary’s Mission Partner – December

13th December 2020

The street pastors offer reassurance, safety and support to all people working in or enjoying our city’s night time economy through caring, listening and helping. Although they are an independent charity, they work closely with the local Police, Winchester BID and Winchester City Council to help make our city safer at night. All Street Pastor groups are part of a national team first pioneered by the Ascension Trust in 2003, and Street Pastors continues to grow throughout the UK and across the world. Their first patrol in Winchester went out in 2011 after being commissioned at the Cathedral on 21st June. They train and commission new Street Pastors and Prayer Pastors every year.

Street Pastors are trained volunteers from fifteen local churches who care about the community in Winchester. The volunteers are on duty from 10pm to 3am, every Friday and Saturday night. They stop and chat to anyone they meet while providing a peaceful presence on the night-time streets.

If you want to know more about what they are doing in Winchester, or are interested in becoming a Street Pastor, please contact them- winchester@streetpastors.org.uk or 07740 288654

They take their strength and inspiration from the story of the Good Samaritan – Luke 10:25-37.
